Direct Support Provider (DSP)

The Direct Support Provider is responsible for providing support services to developmentally or intellectually disabled individuals in a community setting.

     Responsibilities and Duties

 

  • Provide support to individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities which permit them to live independently in a community setting. 
     

  • Plan and schedule activities in the community while supporting individuals with communication and comprehension.  
     

  • Assist and support individuals to achieve their goals of independence, housing options, social activities, advocacy, and medical providers. 
     

  • Accurately record hours worked, incidents, progress notes, and mileage, electronically or written document.
     

  • Obtain and maintain all required certifications and training.
     

  • Display open communication and cooperative work behavior.
     

  • Ensure individuals exercise their rights and are treated with dignity and respect.

     Qualifications
 

  • Must be 18 years of age or older, have a valid driver's license, reliable car to drive and proof of insurance. 
     

  • Self-motivated and self-directed.
     

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences.
     

  • Excellent verbal, written, and digital communication skills including smart phone technology.
     

  • Competent in creating and editing word documents.
     

  • Access to a scanner and the ability to turn a scanned document into a PDF file.
     

  • Ability to satisfy physical requirements for an individual which might include light lifting, bending, walking and physical support.
     

  • Pass a thorough background check and obtain First Aid & CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
     
  • Previous experience as a Direct Support Provider, Social Services, or Direct patient care giving desirable.
